What could cause me to only retain water in my fingers when I first wake up?

October 11th, 2009
Posted by: admin

The last couple months I have noticed when I wake up in the morning my fingers are swollen, my rings won’t fit (or if i sleep with one on it leaves red marks then later in the day it barely stays on my finger) and my finger joints hurt. My sodium intake has not changed, I am not on any new medications and it only occurs in my fingers (never in my face, legs, feet or ankles). Anyone ever have a similar problem? What could be causing this?

Can drinking water be too “hard”?

October 11th, 2009
Posted by: admin

I normally drink bottled water, but we ran out, and I drink a LOT of water. I’m not a baby about the taste or quality of tap water as long as it’s cold, but I am a baby about its appearance.

My water is literally filled with floaty things. I already know this is supposed to be “hard water” and my water is very hard, I don’t think our landlords want to spend money on softeners.

I guess my fear is that since the water is so heavily tainted with these particles that either a) it’s not just hard water but some other contaminant that I wouldn’t recognize like dirt or rust or something, or b) the water is actually to hard to be healthy somehow.

What are you recommendations? Drink it, or make my last16 oz bottle of water last until I can go shopping tomorrow?

(Ack, I have no idea how to sort this.)
Not to be rude, but this question is about the quality of my unfiltered tap water. I didn’t ask for advice on what to do with it. We drink bottled water because we don’t have money for the expense of a tap filter and because pitcher filters have small storage capacity. Any answers telling me to buy a filter and save the environment will be downrated.
Johnny P, you’re awesome. Yes, the floaty things are white. I’m glad to hear that you grew up fine with it, cause I’m gonna drink it now.

The word on the street is that the whole city I live in runs on well water, and I never knew it. I’m not sure if it’s true or not.

Water fleas or daphnia are fresh water crustaceans. They eat algae and are food sources for fish, bugs, etc. I want to culture them and research certain drugs used in hospitols and see how it effects them.

Anybody own rental property in Syracuse NY? Is this a good idea?

October 10th, 2009
Posted by: admin

My wife and I went to look at rental properties in Syracuse NY yesterday. After subtracting taxes, vacancy rate of 20% of gross rents, management fees of 10%, maintenance reserve of 10%, estimated water cost 5%, (utilities paid by tenants), and debt service on 90% of the full asking price, we are still coming up with positive cash flow at the end of the month.

The properties are in poor / bad neighborhoods. The current property managers don’t run credit checks because you would never fill any vacancies if they went on credit. The units are rented month to month with no lease. Of the tenants we saw they seemed to be very very low income.

The properties themselves seem to be run down (although I’m not a building inspector). I don’t want to be a slumlord.

Anybody else have experience with this? Advice?

How would you measure the density of sugar even though it dissolves in water? I need this for my chemistry class and would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

How often should I change the water of my goldfish?

October 10th, 2009
Posted by: admin

Hi, I got a goldfish and I have it in a bowl, and I know bowls aren’t good for the fish, but I was wondering how often to changed it’s water. I also found out that the fish, whenver coming to eat the 2-3 pieces of food every 6 hours i feed it, there are so many bubbles on the surface, how much should i feed the fish, currently i am feeding about 3-4 pieces in the morning, and the same in the afternoon. Also, do i need plants or something?

Thanks so much
